Official Statement Regarding Brickwall Firm Controversy

Walker End Houston is committed to keeping the Dynamo soccer community inclusive and welcoming of all Houstonians.

We are disappointed that a member of an affiliated supporter group would jeopardize the good works done by Brickwall Firm and all Walker End affiliates to publicly attack an on-field opponent with such a vile slur.

Walker End Houston is confident that Brickwall Firm is doing everything in their ability to sanction those responsible in complete adherence to our belief in self-policing and taking a stand against bigotry as outlined in the Walker End Houston Honor Code.

UPDATE: Make Some Noise!

Thanks to everyone who has participated during the coordinated chants the past few games. We’re currently working on improving our synchronisation and spreading the word about these times.

One of the pieces of feedback we got from independent fans was they wanted a coordinated “Vamos, Vamos Houston. Que-esta noche tenemos que ganar.” Those of you who were around in the 2006 & 2007 playoffs will have chills recalling the sound of 30,000 Dynamo fans at Robertson Stadium singing the song in unison. So we’ve communicated between the supporters groups and adjusted the coordinated schedule to work that in as well as another classic.

Please sing and chant with us!

Let’s Go Dynamo – Game clock times: 15:00, 30:00, 60:00, 75:00
Let’s Go Dynamo (clap clap clapclapclap)

Karma Chameleon – Game clock times: 40:00, 85:00
Dale-dale-dale dale-dale Dynamooo
Dale Dynamooo
Dale DynamoooOooo

Vamos, Vamos Houston - Game clock times: 40:00, 85:00 (if losing, tied, or up by 1 goal)
Vamos, vamos Houston
Que-esta noche, tenemos que ganar

Ole - Game clock time: 85:00 (if up by 2 goals or more)
Ole, ole, ole, ole
Houston, Tejas

Listed in sequence:
15:00 – Let’s Go Dynamo
30:00 – Karma Chameleon
40:00 – Vamos, Vamos Houston
60:00 – Let’s Go Dynamo
75:00 – Karma Chameleon
85:00 – Vamos, Vamos Houston (losing, tied, or up by 1) / Ole (up by 2 or more)

Please help us spread awareness of the coordination plan by sharing with your friends, singing loudly with us and by encouraging fans in your section to join in.

In an effort to provide top class support to our Houston Dynamo, all supporters groups have agreed to coordinate a couple of our simplest songs and chants during certain minute marks of our home games.

Walker End Houston & MLS Reach Agreement to Lift Restrictions On Traveling Dynamo Supporters

On May 11, a few days before the Dynamo home opener at BBVA Compass Stadium, Dynamo supporters group leaders met with Commissioner Garber and other League officials to discuss Dynamo fan misconduct at the 2011 MLS Cup, resulting sanctions on traveling Dynamo supporters in 2012, the formation of Walker End Houston, self-policing, and other supporter-related topics.

At the meeting, Walker End-affiliated supporters group leaders opened discussion for the possibility of sanctions (no drums or tifo for traveling supporters) being lifted for the July 7th Houston Dynamo-Kansas City game on the condition that affiliated groups adhered to League and stadium policies at home and away games. League officials expressed openness to revisiting the topic of our restrictions in the days leading up to the July 7th match.

Yesterday, MLS and Sporting Kansas City approved a request from Walker End Houston that allows traveling Dynamo supporters to bring drums and tifo in specified quantities to Saturdays match in Kansas City. Walker End Houston is encouraged by the improved communication with the League, and with roughly fifty Dynamo fans making the trip out to Livestrong Sporting Park, we look forward to providing the Dynamo with our full support in Kansas City this weekend.

Brewer Crain, Donald Lee, and Eric Nordstrom Named Inaugural At-Large Executive Council Members

This past weekend, Walker End Houston’s founding Executive Council members selected the Brewer Crain, Donald Lee, and Eric Nordstrom for the 2012 At-Large Executive Council positions.

After seven initial candidates, a round of online questionnaires, and in-person interviews, Council members agreed to amend the the Walker End Charter and expand from two At-Large positions to three. We felt that given their past organizational and professional experiences, Brewer, Donald, and Eric are essential to our foundation-building effort.

Over the remaining months one of our top priorities is raising awareness of our Independent Supporters Association amongst the fan base and building an infrastructure that will be conducive to open elections for future At-Large positions on the Executive Council.

Currently, we’re working hard to find solutions to some existing challenges we face with in-stadium support. So hopefully some positive changes are on the way.

As always, we’d like to hear your feedback on what’s working well, what needs improvement, your ideas on how we can build this Dynamo fan community. Please introduce yourself on our forum and start up a new thread on anything you’d like to discuss!

At Last… Kick the STAAR Photos!

Background: Read about our inaugural Kick the STAAR charity drive here.

One of the pains of doing something for the first time is you usually don’t know what you don’t know. So just about any action leads you into uncharted territory where you are not only unsure of what the outcome will be, but you have no way of knowing whether or not you are moving in the right direction. With so much uncertainty and confusion, its easy to get frustrated when things go awry or progress is slow. Admittedly, such was the case with clearing some hurdles required to publish the Kick The STAAR photos.

But for our Independent Supporters Association, there is always a compass that will guide us in the right direction… Its the Walker End Houston vision statement.

The vision of Walker End is tifo in every section and 22,000 supporters singing for the Dynamo, a stadium-wide Dynamo supporter community.

And if we believe in this vision and stay committed to our Statement of Purpose, everything will eventually fall into place — as it did with the photos.

Over the past couple weeks, we’ve seen some incredibly exciting things happen since we launched. When we pitched the idea of a community for all Dynamo fans, independent and group-affiliated, you responded. In less than three weeks we’ve seen:

  • 153 Facebook page Likes
  • 181 Twitter followers
  • 224 Mailing list opt-ins
  • 116 Registered forum users
  • 259 Posts on the forum
  • $1,731.74 raised to outfit two soccer teams of 59 economically disadvantaged youths

All of that without a single flyer handed out at games. Not a single piece of Walker End merchandise sold. Not a single advertisement in a game program. Not a single penny on facebook advertising. Its a testament to the fact that the time is now for this idea.

But where’s the massive tifo?
Why is the supporters section a mess?
Why doesn’t BBVA Compass Stadium sound like Portland/Seattle/Chicago yet?!?

We told you when we began this journey that it would be messy. And so far, it has been. But while progress may be slow, we’re going to continue to focus on the vision and statement of purpose for this ISA. If we stay committed, we can make BBVA Compass Stadium the most intimidating place to play in MLS and do some incredible things for our community and club in ways that no other fan base are doing. We’re talking about growing the game in Houston and feeding our youth academy the talent that is currently being plucked away from right under our noses.

What You Can Do To Help

  1. If you believe in the vision and purpose of this association, have good communications skills, and can serve without being driven by ego, reach out to us about consideration for one of the at-large Executive Council positions. The only requirement is that you are not supporters group affiliated. Contact us here.
  2. Keep spreading the word about Walker End Houston to your friends. You can do that right now by pressing this ‘Like’ button:
  3. If you haven’t already, register for the forum and introduce yourself. Its the best way to make your voice heard.
  4. Support our operations. To date, not a dime has been raised for spreading awareness of Walker End Houston, capital for merchandising, or tifo. Once some cash is in hand, we’ll likely move to merchandising as our main source of revenue so we don’t have to grovel like this again. But it takes money to make money, and without a capital infusion, its extremely difficult to get moving. Every dollar will be accounted for, shared on the forum, and go to ISA operations & merchandising. Please contribute a few bucks here:

ENOUGH ALREADY! I’M HERE FOR THE PICTURES!

Without further ado…

Thank you again to everyone who helped us spread the word about this campaign by Liking, Sharing, Retweeting, and especially to everyone who donated. All of you helped put smiles on these kids faces. And yes, next year we’ll have time to make sure the orange socks and tops match perfectly!

Kick The STAAR Goal Reached!

Thanks to everyone who participated in spreading awareness of and donating to the Kick the STAAR campaign. The Dynamo community raised $1,731.74 of our $1,500 goal (115%) in 25 hours, over 30 hours ahead of deadline. As a result of your tweets, facebook shares, word of mouth campaigning, and donations, 59 economically disadvantaged and at-risk youths from Conroe have their team uniforms. Pictures soon.

Today, the Kick the STAAR 5th grade team took the field at Wood Forest National Bank Stadium in Orange Walker End Houston tops, black shorts, orange soccer socks, and shin guards. “The kids loved the uniforms” said Rodrigo De La Garza, volunteer coach for the program.

Tomorrow the 6th grade team will start tournament play starting at 9:30 AM. If you are free tomorrow morning and can make it to the north side of town, come on out support our Kick the STAAR team.
